HOW TO SHOW ENERGY, ENTHUSIASM AND USE EYE CONTACT

The Voice

Power - Louder than normal conversation
- Vary the volume
- Don’ tail off towards end of a point

Pace - Slower than normal conversation
- Vary the speed
- Hands and gestures will help
- Clear diction

Pitch - Vary to avoid monotone
- Use intonation and inflections
- Show your enthusiasm!

Pauses - Before starting and before important points
- Avoid “ums” and “errs”


Body Language and Audience Contact

Eyes - Look all around the audience
- Look at each member of the audience
- Linger, but don’t embarrass

Face - Smile

Gestures - From the shoulder rather than the elbow
- Use to add emphasis – plan use
- Notes on cards
- Not repetitive mannerisms

Body - Decide on a ‘rest’ position
- Deliberate movements, not too static
